Adult Adoptee Consider Themselves Lucky They Don’t Have Access To Original Birth Certificates-They Want The State To Care For Them
AP-Jefferson City MO by Jimmy Olson
In an unexpected move thousands of adult adoptees are now living in tent cities in front of state capitals nationwide.
“We’ve just had enough.” said a 44 year-old adoptee from Missouri, “Heck, since the state was never going to allow me to be seen as an adult, they can take care of me.”
After fighting for too many years for access to her records she and thousands of others have delivered papers relinquishing themselves to their governors. Only seven states have open adoption records allowing adult adoptees access to their original birth certificates.
One adult adoptee from Iowa says he considers himself lucky. “Now the state can take care of me, if they want to consider me a child that can’t be trusted with their birth records. It only seems fair.” he said. “I’m looking forward to all the benefits of being the governor’s son. “
“This beats anything that I’ve ever seen. I just don’t know what we are going to do with them. They are creating all kinds of problems. They keep asking everyone if they have seen their daddy, meaning me.”, said Missouri governor Jay Nixon. “A whole bunch of them tried to follow me home last night. Now they are on the grounds of the governors mansion asking my wife for sandwiches.”
Missouri isn’t the only state overrun with adult adoptees, Incidents of voluntary relinquishment by adoptees have been reported in 42 other states.
In Florida, a group of adult adoptees have petitioned Governor Charlie Crist for education expenses that they incurred over 20 years ago. They contend since he is now their legal parent, they are owed the cost of their education.
Indiana governor Mitchell Daniels has promised to call up the national guard if adult adoptees, that all claim to be his children, don’t stop messing up the grass in front of the capitol.

What a novel idea! You know, it is true. The state treats us as perpetual children so why not?
