The more I write here, the more you will learn about our particular open adoption situation. Each adoptive family and each birth family has a unique relationship, and ours is no exception. Most of our children’s biological families live within about a 30 miles of us. We are worlds apart, but an easy drive on the interstate.

One of our favorite people in Macey’s adoption story is her biological paternal grandmother. We met her at the hospital, moments before Macey’s arrival into this world. She’s a hard working woman who does the best she can with what she’s got.

She is shopper at heart. And when shopper meets easy-to-please, cute-as-pie three year old, watch out. She called last week, saying that she was going to be on our side of town, and could she drop “a few things” off. We weren’t going to be home that afternoon, but two large bags of goodies were on the doorstep. In the bags were goodies ranging from a personalized ornament for Junior (that matches the one she got for Macey last year) to Valentine’s Day sunglasses, to a candy and a stuffed shamrock. All those little things that a grandma might pick up for her grandchildren were in there. She was excited to give them and Macey was excited to get them. Sounds like a win-win to me.

Michelle writes about what happens when teeny-tiny three year old girl toys meet curious 10 month old boy at Gotchababy.
