Guatemalan Worry Dolls
Crafts, Feature — By Judy on December 11, 2009 at 7:18 am
Guatemalan Worry Dolls are well known. Worry Dolls typically come in a group of six within a small woven bag or brightly painted wood box.
Worry Dolls originated with the Ancient Maya. It is believed that they were created from scraps left over from weaving and from pieces of wood. The bags were considered to have magical properties. They held the tiny hand-made dolls instead fetishes.
Legend says that children (and adults too!) should share their problems with the colorfully decorated worry dolls before going to bed. The dolls should be placed beneath the child’s pillow. The dolls will remove those worries while the children sleep.
Worry Dolls have been used by children who are anxious or have been hospitalized or traumatized.

If we don’t buy them from Guatemala and make our own doesn’t someone lose money?
