Adoption Carnival V: What do you want REFORMED?
Adoption Reform means so many things because we all come from different parts of the adoption community. To you reform may mean making original birth certificates available to every adoptee, to me it may mean making all countries Hague compliant.
Almost everyone involved in adoption believes that the adoption community needs some reform.
So, tell us what you want reformed. Help us spread the word a little (okay, a lot) and lets get everyone involved in this Carnival. Make sure to link to Mr. Linky.

I believe that adoption needs more than reform. It needs to reconstructed from the ground up.
1. All profit needs to be removed.
2. Adoption needs to be a last resort for families in crisis after all resources to keep them together and find extended family have been exhausted.
3. Alternative extra-family care, when the only recourse, needs to about the best interests of children, not about finding children to meet a demand.
4. It needs to revert back to what it was pre 1940’s – a totally open way of the Jones family providing care for the Smith boy with no secrets, no lies and no falsified birth certificates. When you put the needs of children first, depravation of one’s heritage is cruel and totally unnecessary.
5. No falsified birth certificates proactively and reversal of discrimination of those adopted in the past allowing all who are named on birth certificates, equal access to those birth certificates.

“1. All profit needs to be removed.”
… how is that possible in adoption? At some point there will need to be a payment for the process itself, and the adoption agencies will profit from that payment regardless.
